Prosthetic Freedom Covers

The excitement for the Freedom Covers is almost too much to believe. We went from an idea, to a thread and needle to becoming the best Prosthetic cover on the market today in 3 years. We recently signed with Orth-reha-neuhof to represent the order facilitated throughout Europe. Our Japanese counterparts at Nabtesco are excited to bring the Freedom Cover to market and are close to getting the reimbursement by the Japanese government. Our momentum at the largest distributor in the US has been fantastic as well. After about 1000 sold Freedom Covers, I am still proud to say that we have not had ONE return due to any damage, breakdown or someone not being happy with the product. We have had a few returns for wrong sizing but that is it. We are in talks in 2016 presently to increase our numbers 10 fold. We plan on making the covers for children with our American manufacturer New Options Sports in Texas. We are 100% US made. We want to keep the jobs in the US and keep the quality the best you can buy…and that’s only done in the... read more

New Options Sports from Texas and its CEO John Scott has been in the business of helping just about ANYONE in need. He has been selling neoprene products for 35 years before neoprene was even popular.  John believed in me and my products when he saw how they helped my life and agreed to make them in cool flex neoprene. It’s been a three year relationship with ups and downs but in the end he has helped JAFO create great products that will help many people going forward. I’m happy to call him my friend and business partner.... read more

Is handicap always scary

Telling people close to your life about your handicap is always scary. Will they treat you differently? I remember when I got hurt I was in a wheelchair for 2 months. I also rememeber the look on everyone’s face when I stood up and started walking again. I felt like I was treated differently for sure and I would’ve never known this unless I was in a wheelchair. I understand the imprtance on how people perceive you and that’s why making my JAFO has helped me accomplish more things because mentally I feel like I am healthy. That conveys in everything I do in life. When I was in the wheelchair I was depressed. When I wore the regular AFO’s I also felt less of a person. You know what I mean? Maybe it’s just me but that’s how I felt. The JAFO has made me feel whole again and I attribute my successes in life to my mental state which has been improved with my... read more

my gait looks a bit more natural

I went to Maramed last week to look at the AFO’s they will make for the JAFO and the orthotist in the back took my AFO and he bent the stalk and broke the 90 degree angle. That lifted my foot more so I don’t trip over my toes. After I saw how he did it, I went home and tried it myself on another pair I own. I first laid the AFO on a piece of paper and traced it. I then took a hair dryer and heated up the stalk for 1-2 minutes and slowly bent it and broke the 90 degree angle. I held it in place and ran the AFO under cold water like they did. I then laid it back on the piece of paper and retraced the AFO and saw the difference. It was that easy. I did it 3 times and every time made the angle a bit more extreme. I walk a little better than yesterday now and my gait looks a bit more... read more

Blog prosthetic foam cover

I just came back from the AOPA Vegas convention and met so many people. Two AK models were so happy to try on the Freedom Cover or Blog prosthetic foam cover and they offered me cash on the spot to buy the covers. There were many clinicians there and were so supportive of my drop foot and how I developed these products. I really enjoyed their feedback and support. JAFO picked up many clients and I made many new friends. I also spent $300 on two tickets to LaReve so it looks like tuna salad for the next two weeks for... read more

Today I lightly sanded the Maramed AFO

Today I lightly sanded the Maramed AFO and sprayed it matte black. I am happy with the result as it disappears completely when it is inside the black neoprene JAFO.                                               ... read more

I went to the FAOP show in Orlando

I went to the FAOP show in Orlando over the weekend and saw many vendors. The Freedom Cover was sure a hit with many of the reps there. A JAFO rep and I went to a Hanger facility and the orthotists there were so interested in the AFO and limb cover but could not commit to buying anything for their patients and told me I need to register with SPS. They are Hanger’s distributor and they buy all of their products for patients through SPS. So I filled out a bunch of paper work when I came home and was told I needed to send samples to their review board. I hope to get some answer from them this month and would love for all 800 plus Hanger facilities to have the option to carry the JAFO products. Some of the knees that the Freedom Cover is used on successfully have been Plie 2.0 and similar products from Endolite and TruLife, Ossur Rheo, Power Knee, Symbionic Leg, Mauch Knee and Ottobock C-leg. The next convention is this September 2014 in Las Vegas. I hope the next time I blog I will have good news and updates about my... read more
